But this is the digital age, so techie toy maker TechnoSource decided it was time to make an electronic version of the diabolically challenging cube. The latest version of the cube doesn’t require twisting and turning the colored layers at all. A simple swipe of the finger does the trick. It’s a Rubik’s Cube for the iPhone age!

All six sides utilize cutting edge, easy-to-use touch sensor technology. Swipe your fingers across the squares and the lights will follow, emulating a turn or twist. Simply slide the lighted squares horizontally, vertically, or rotate a face with a touch of your finger. If ever you’re stuck, the TouchCube can give you a hint or solve it step by step right before your eyes. The TouchCube’s powerful processor knows exactly the number of moves needed to solve at any given time.

Another exciting feature of this cool gadget is that it allows you to choose between modern sound effects or an actual recording of the original Cube’s twist. The TouchCube also comes with a recharging stand, and will solve itself while charging, creating a captivating light display.

Techno Source has spent three years hard at work in their underground puzzle and wonderment factory to bring us the TouchCube, and now, it can be ours. For $150, the Rubik’s TouchCube can be purchased at Amazon.com.

GadgetFreak

Seed Planting Cluster Bomb

Anti War activists hate cluster bombs – mostly because they can be used to deploy anti personnel mines which don’t get picked up long after the last bullet has been fired. And when they go off, even children are victims. But can the technology be harnessed for more constructive and green purposes? Designer Hwang Jin Wook seems to think so and as such, he came up with the “Seedbomb.”

The concept is amazingly simple and represents the coolness of out of the box thinking. Instead of tiny bombs known as “bomblets” or anti personnel mines, the SeedBomb has Seed capsules aligned in a cluster configuration. Each cluster of capsules is packed into a single bomb with dozens of others and when the bomb reaches optimum altitude, the clusters are released to embed all around the impact area. Each capsule contains soil and seeds housed in a biodegradable plastic. The soil is packed with plant rich nutrients and moisture enough to allow the plant seed to germinate (the plastic canister acts as a defacto greenhouse) and grow until the plant can sustain itself. As the plant matures, the biodegradable plastic canister deteriorates until there’s nothing left.

The idea is brilliant for deploying to areas stricken by desertification or deforestation. And It’s easy to see the Forestry department using them to reseed areas that have recently fallen victim to wildfires or bark beetle infestation. But can just planting plants change an environment? Not on it’s own, but if you consider that with all the golf courses it has, that the average temperature of Palm Springs has DROPPED 20 degrees in the last 25 years, it’s worth looking at.

GadgetFreak

Nokia E71x is now available via AT&T

The Nokia E71 is one great smartphone to own if you haven’t yet done so already, but just in case you’re thinking of upgrading to that model - hold your horses. Nokia has just made available the E71x, touted to be the slimmest smartphone on the market, via AT&T retail stores and online from this week onwards. This full QWERTY smartphone will retail for a mere $99.99, although that comes with a customary 2-year contract alongside a mail-in rebate. After all, a watch with a video camera feels like it was taken right out of James Bond or Dick Tracy.

The Thanko MP4 watch also supports other types of digital formats including MP3, WPA, WMA, and can also display JPG files. I am assuming that everything can be downloaded via the mini USB port on the side.

You can’t help but like all the features in these kind of watches, but they always end up looking so thick. I had a chance to try out the MP4 watch from Brando, and it was like having a deck of cards strapped to my wrist. It appears that Thanko was not able to perfect their design.

I’m not certain why you would want a camera on a watch, except for covert operations. I believe that the lens is on the side, so if you are trying to film in secret, you will probably be a dead giveaway.

GadgetFreak

SuperMultiBlue, the perfect solution

While Blu-ray and HD-DVD are fighting fiercely for the market share, Korean electronics giant LG has come up with a perfect solution - putting the 2 players together into one - SuperMultiBlue.

The LG’s solution is the world’s first dual-format Blu-ray and HD DVD player, capable of outputting footage at 1080p (the highest of hi-def outputs), boasting a full range of connections including HDMI and component alongside the usual AV suspects. SuperMultiBlue also supports a wide range of video formats, and is also capable of playing your old DVDs.

A cool addition to the player is the java-based interactive menus. This enables you to see the footage on screen, also with an overlay menu, which enables you to get into the interactive options.

If you’ve been scratching your head for a decision on whether buying a HD-DVD or Blue-Ray player, then LG has just made the decision for you and it’s the best.

The price will put a lot people off, but I’m sure it will drop at some point, and in the end of the day, it’s worth it!
Now, hoardings about fighting terrorism have sprung up across the city.

One of the first messages seen on hoardings read “Enough is Enough” and announced the peace rally held on December 3 at the Gateway of India, close to the Taj Hotel, where one of the terror attacks took place. The hoarding generated a buzz because it featured the name of no brand, company or person. Citizens gathered at the Gateway of India in large numbers with handheld signs and candles, voicing their views on the attacks.

DNA has launched a campaign in Mumbai, putting up hoardings that read “Enough of tolerance? Speak up.” and “Spirit of Mumbai. Considering that power to PMPs is always an issue for mobile music, it is refreshing to see a PMP that does not require a wired charging method like an AC cord or USB cable.

The user has the option of using a USB cable if he or she wants to. Just to put it in perspective, it takes six hours with a “full sun” to charge the SQ-6, but only four hours with the USB. With a full charge, the SQ-S is capable of up to 38 hours of music playback and 10 hours of video playback.

The screen of the SQ-S is a 1.8 inch 65K color display, made for both video and photo playback. The SQ-S comes with 16GB of built-in memory, but does not have a memory card slot. It supports formats of MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, APE, OGG, and M4A. It also has an FM radio and is capable of FM recording.

GadgetFreak

Acer Aspire Predator desktop PC makes good...

Acer from Taiwan is already the third largest vendor in the PC market, and has announced its Acer Aspire Predator desktop PC as well as the Acer G24 widescreen LCD display to accompany that gaming beast. Both models will be available to customers in the US, packing in top notch gaming specifications into a case that looks way too cool to be an ordinary PC, and chances are anyone who lays their eyes on it might be forgiven if they’re fooled into thinking the case might actually transform into a robot suddenly when nobody’s looking. Gotta love the deep metallic copper color it comes in, where the top of the chassis features USB and audio ports that are easy to reach, while a multi-memory card reader is located on the front.

What lies within the belly of the Acer Aspire Predator? Well, for starters, you have the powerful Intel Core 2 Quad processor to help you out when it comes to processing crunch, while NVIDIA’s GeForce 9 Series graphics cards will be able to let you enjoy even the most demanding games without dropping enough frames to render the title unplayable. In addition, it won’t rely on regular air to keep everything inside running cool - instead, the Aspire Predator will use an advanced state-of-the-art liquid cooling system that ensures all parts run at an optimal level without overheating no matter the processor-intensive tasks thrown its way. The Acer Aspire Predator is also accompanied by the Acer G24 LCD display, a 24″ widescreen LCD display to go along with the Predator’s stunning looks. You will find a 2ms response time, a brightness of 400cd/m2, a contrast ratio of 50,000:1 and a maximum resolution of 1,920 x 1,200. You will be able to pick up the Aspire Predator from $1,649 upwards while the Acer G24 LCD display will retail for $399.99.

GadgetFreak

Rumor of new Apple laptop !!

Word on the street has it that Apple will be rolling out a new line of laptop computers sometime next week, including an entry level device that won’t break the bank while jumping on the coveted Apple bandwagon. Word on the street has it that this new Apple laptop will finally break the sub-$1,000 price point - a level somewhat like the Dow Jones, plunging to depths never seen before. Some of the analysts are so bold as to predict a $800 pricing, but I’ll leave that up to the Apple accounting department to decide just how much profit they want to make. The tiny little turntable would be ultra-portable and look good while doing it. It’s one of the few that would make a cool keychain. With the little strap you could attach it to your purse or any other bags you might carry on a regular basis. It’d also be small enough to slip into your pocket, especially with its slim shape. Although you probably should be careful not to sit down with it in your back pocket, otherwise you’ll probably have to pick up a new one.
It comes in the three different colors shown here, black white and orange. You can easily see where the sound itself will come out of from the picture. If you spin that spot, that is also how you control the volume. The speakers come with a built-in rechargeable battery. Gotta love the design though as it would go down well with a Nokia Prism in tow. The Philips Luxe MP3 player cum Bluetooth headset will be released in Singapore next month for approximately $94.

GadgetFreak

Sonic Vox has no flame to play with

We have covered iPhone applications from Smule before, like the Sonic Lighter, which gives you a flame for your portable touchscreen. While there might not be a practical use for a virtual flame, Smule has released the Sonic Vox, something that will bring even more fun.

Sonic Vox has no flame to play with, but you can have some fun playing with your voice. This isn’t some application where you record your voice, and the Sonic Vox distorts it on the playback. The Sonic Vox will distort it in real-time.

All you need to do is set the pitch and the level of echo effect on the touchscreen. You can then make yourself sound like someone like Gollum. It reminds me of the Optimus Prime voice changer toy, but without the blue mask.

According to Smule, they say the Sonic Vox can work from phone to phone, but my source says that it does not work that way. However, if a Sonic Vox iPhone is hooked up to a speaker, MacBook, or boom box, then you can still have lots of fun channeling your inner James Earl Jones.

So if you want to have fun playing with your voice, then you can shell out 99 cents to the App store for the Sonic Vox.

GadgetFreak

Lemur Autovision to help increase road safety

If used correctly, that is. The Lemur Autovision is a device that is a snap to install in just about any vehicle, and it helps you get a clearer picture on your driving, recording important information like speed, distance and brakes while you tear up asphalt in your vehicle. Parents who review such data after their kids have taken out the family car for a spin will be able to better advise the younger ones on picking up life-saving pointers when driving.
Some of the features available on the Lemur Autovision include :-

Real-time feedback

Reports speed, distance, brakes

Convenient keychain LCD

Easy to install

Affordable - no monthly fees

Tamper Proof and PIN protected

You can pick up the Lemur Autovision for $99.95 a pop, and unless used responsibly, it will remain pretty much useless when it comes to cutting down the number of road accidents and fatalities. Still, a tool like this should not go unnoticed as any bit could go a long way in helping us make our roads safer for everyone.

GadgetFreak

The USB Flower Lamp from Apple

With the weather slowly cooling off, soon all of the flowers will die, at least the ones outdoors. Leaving most of us with nothing but dead plants and very cold wet snow. Well with all the plants dead, you might end up missing some of the pretty flowers. Now you can pick up a glowing USB flower that will stay in bloom year round. Even when outside it is ice cold and everything looks gray and white. Yes, I’m just thrilled that winter will be here soon. So thrilled I think I’ll just hibernate all winter and never go outside, seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Well, just surround your desk with these cute little USB flowers and not only will you have plenty of task lighting, but you’ll never get the winter blues. The lamp comes in three different colors, red, blue and orange. The lamp has eight bright LEDs built-in and the flower stem itself can adjust to give you lighting where you need it. You can also power it by using 3 AA batteries instead of plugging it into your USB port. The flower will cost you $15 from Gadget4all.

Source: GeekyGadgets

GadgetFreak

If you’re looking for a USB drive that has a little bit of history to it, much like the Mahjong USB drive, you might check out these little warriors. These terracotta warriors are a 7in tall replica of the Xi’an terracotta warriors, found in 1974 perfectly preserved for over 2,000 years. The warriors found at that point were underground, life-sized and were over 6,000 of them. Found by a farmer no less that was digging a well. That’d definitely make the task of digging a hole a lot more interesting.

The drives come in anywhere from 1GB-8GB. It supports password protection, and has a limited lifetime warranty. Which likely means that this drive is going to be an expensive one. Unfortunately there’s no way to tell on that. There are a few out there, one being the metal game pad shown here a couple months ago. However, what if you could have a gaming controller that you were already overly familiar with? I think for most gamers that would trump any extra perks other USB controllers claim to have. Well now you can pick up an NES controller that has been modded to work with USB.

You can actually purchase this, this isn’t a situation where you will have to magically learn how to mod controllers. I know despite there being a thorough tutorial that if you don’t have to tools and lack the mindset for that sort of thing it’s going to get you nowhere. The USB controller also has the ability to work as a mouse. If you press in a combination of letters then it kicks on the mouse function. It isn’t being mass produced though, it’s just one guy doing the mods so you’ll have to hurry if you plan to actually get a hold of one.

GadgetFreak

New standard to bring video chat to smart phones

Fresh off their VoiceEngine for iPhone audio platform, Global IP solutions has announced a new video chat engine which promises to turn every smartphone into a video phone. It can’t have been easy to make the world’s thinnest laptop mouse, or at least the world’s slimmest so far.
The G4 is a 5mm piece of plastic and metal that can fold up into a very flat slot. In fact, it is so flat that it can fit inside the PCMCIA slot of the laptop, which is one that I don’t use while the laptop is being transported.
This makes the G4 one of the most compact computer mice, and it comes with a retractable USB cable as well. This has a touch scroll pad in the middle of two left and right mouse buttons.
The G4 slim mouse is a plug and play feature that is compatible with both PC and Mac laptops. Not only that, this G4 Mouse is an optical mouse that is state of the art.
The G4 Slim mouse comes with a leather pouch and mouse pad, and is available for about $69.99 on the Slim mouse site.

GadgetFreak

Zero Gravity Micro R/C Car

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all where remote control cars are concerned, along ambles the Zero Gravity Micro R/C Car. This device is touted to be extremely maneuverable, and is able to perform gravity-defying moves along the wall.
So how does it work then? Well, Zero Gravity Micro features an advanced Venturi suction system that works a bit like a vacuum cleaner. Special fans create massive down-force to keep it glued to the wall whilst flexible skirts around the chassis ensure the vacuum remains sealed. You control the action via a stylish twin toggle infra-red transmitter and the vehicle itself is powered by a rechargeable battery. Simply charge and go.
For £29.95, you will be able to choose from black or red colors, and with four frequencies to select from, you will be able to have fun with three other racers, but make sure your neck gets more than enough rest since looking at a ceiling all day long can get pretty sore.

GadgetFreak

Google Chrome open source browser

Just when everyones is getting used to news of Firefox eating into Microsoft Internet Explorer’s market share, along comes Google to upset the natural order of things. The ZN5 also comes with a Xenon flash. It has a 2.4-inch TFT display with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution and 256k colors. With regards to connectivity the handset supports Wi-Fi, EDGE, GPRS, Bluetooth with A2DP and USB v2.0. Memory can be expanded via microSD cards. It also comes with a TV out feature and a 3.5mm earphone socket. Motorola's CrystalTalk technology is also present in the ZN5.
Consumers can experience a totally customized Indian experience on their ZN5. Timelinks is currently seeking patents for a variety of technologies that would make such a building possible, including a three axis public transportation system that would run residents up, through and across the pyramid. They've also claimed that with a hybrid wind, solar and steam power the Ziggurat would be able to meet its own power needs, and that there would be enough room to allow for some minor agriculture in designated "green spaces."
Before you just write this off as another wacky internet design concept, consider the absurdly ostentatious structures that Dubai has already built, and the fact that unlike the hyperluxurious ego-boosters currently under construction, the Ziggurat might be a viable housing solution for people who don't have a natural resource-infused trust fund.

GadgetFreak

The i-bird. Rather than using un-bird-like rotors, the i-Bird simulates a real bird’s flapping wings perfectly. This is enough to keep it airborne and allows it to flit around both indoors and outdoors, completely in your control.
Granted, the hand controller isn’t as sleek as the i-Bird itself, but through infrared, it does the job of manoeuvring the little fella away from the expensive crystal. If you are still worried about not being skilled enough to steer away from an expensive crash, the i-Bird flies at a relatively slow speed so that you can keep up with it. It’s also tough enough to survive even my abrupt landing skills.
Priced at £30 from RED5* the i-Bird is an affordable must for the gadget lover in your life.

GadgetFreak

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://gadgetg.blogspot.com/2008/08/i-bird-you-are-wind-beneath-its-wings.html' title='The i-bird. Though it's tiny, it fits in an iPod dock, a five-channel amp, six speakers and a subwoofer built into the base. It must be pretty cramped inside, since it's just 10.75-inches across, and only 6.75 high. The DVD player can cope with DivX, MPEG-4 and WMV, and upscales to 1080p over HDMI and the CD player can read MP3 discs, and it's got USB-in. If that's whetted your appetite, you'll have to wait as there's no info yet on timing or price.

GadgetFreak

Xbox 360 Goes Coin-Op..

While the Xbox 360 arcade is ironically the least expensive version of 360, The Arcade Station T2 is the probably the most expensive...and it actually belongs in an arcade. Essentially an arcade cabinet housing an Xbox 360, the Arcade Station T2 features two controllers, memory card slots and system link gaming (which we're assuming means local multiplayer, not full LIVE access). Potentially bundled games could include Halo 3, FIFA 08, Assassins Creed and Devil May Cry 4, but players won't need to shove in more quarters every time Master Chief gets teabagged. This will be a pay-for-time unit. Bonus pic:
Currently in testing overseas, the officially licensed cabinet should be available in the coming months. And if it only ditched those controllers for a couple of high performance joysticks, we might just be tempted to score one for home use.

GadgetFreak

World's Best Looking Solar Gadget Charger..

Great concept from designer Vivien Muller for a modular, Lego-like little bonsai tree with 54 mini photovoltaic panels as leaves to soak up juice from the sun and charge your gadgets. More shots of the detachable pieces follow.

GadgetFreak

Bluetooth Enabled USB Sunglasses with MP3 player

This cool and smart sunglass allows you to attend the calls via the Bluetooth connectivity. It is still in concept stage and lacks many modern features.
Because of the limited size, you should not expect it to have a camera, big LCD screen and all the modern stuffs. Instead this phone has everything on the minimal side. Apparently, this phone also has a microSD slot.
As you can see from the picture, the numbers are on the side of the Pen adjacent to wide LCD screen. The control-wheel helps you jump between phonebook content. With the latest iPhone 2.0.2 update: just a simple tap and your password can be bypassed, and access to personal data such as SMS messages, your inbox, your contact list is just taps away! Scary stuff. The process to bypass your password? As easy as ABC, or rather just A and B --
1. Tap emergency call. 2. Double tap the home button. That's it, you are in -- password bypassed. To prevent this breach, you need to change some interface behaviour.

As Gizmodo puts it: 1. Unfortunately, due to their small sizes, they are targets for information thieves.
Think about it - all that personal data - your resume, email, password-files, and pictures of your girlfriend (wink) can be picked up and copied and returned before you even noticed it was missing. You want to have this data handy, but handy for you and not for that scumbag down the hall with the sticky fingers.
Like you, the US Military wanted portable but secure storage, and the guys at IronKey stepped up. They've developed the perfect solution that's one-part thumb-drive, and two parts Mission: Impossible. Their thumb drives hold up to 8 Gigabytes of data, but includes a hardware encryption chip that scrambles the data so as to be completely unreadable without a password.
Passwords can be hacked, but not the IronKey. It's built to withstand attacks both virtual and physical. 10 incorrect password attempts, and the encryption chip self-destructs, making the contents of the flash drive totally unreadable. The contents of the drive are filled with epoxy, so if a hacker tries to physically access the chips, he'd more likely damage them instead. Even if he did get access to the memory chips, they'd be worthless without the encryption chip. Electron-shielded, even a scanning electron microscope can't get inside.

GadgetFreak

Eyeball Lamps clone your eyes ...WoW !

This new lamp can be filed under all that is bizarre and the slightest bit creepy. They are hand blown glass and made to look exactly like your eyes. So if you’re a bit full of yourself when it comes to your eye color, now you can show it off through a bit of quirky lighting. Although I imagine your guests would feel the slightest bit unnerved by sitting next to a set of lamps that keep staring back at them.
So just depending on how much you actually like your friends, you might not want to keep something like this around. To get your own set custom made for you, you will have to take close up shots of your eyes. Then pick out a color that matches the shade of your eyes. These are made by Livio Serena who works out of Murano. Each pair is going to obviously be created made to order, so its not something that can be rushed out. You will need to contact 5.5 Designer to get the pricing info and availability on this product.

Source: Gadgettastic

GadgetFreak

Sonic Bomb Bed-Shaking Alarm Clock: You’ll never oversleep again!

Personally, I wouldn’t pay anyone to deafen me and shake me out of bed in the morning. I’d give them something… but certainly not money. Nevertheless, for those who are a sucker for that extra five minutes, which inevitably turn into an hour, this is the perfect solution.

The Sonic Bomb Alarm Clock’s buzz is way beyond that of a normal alarm clock; it booms out at 113 decibels and is guaranteed to wake the heaviest of sleepers. (Either that, or give them a heart attack!) It can be likened to the sound of a pneumatic drill, at 110 decibels.
If the ludicrously loud volume isn’t enough to wake the living dead, this alarm clock viciously shakes your bed courtesy of a vibrating pad under your mattress.
Now, the last time I woke up to my bed shaking, my room was being possessed by a poltergeist! Ok, so it was actually an earth tremor… but my vivid imagination and exorcist style bad dream led me to believe otherwise.
Don’t worry though; this alarm clock can be used as a ‘normal alarm clock’ thanks to some regular features, including:
A red LED display for night viewing.
Snooze button (As if! I’d be flying out of that bed!)
Battery back-up.
Volume control (Thank god!)

Price: $ 50

GadgetFreak

The iRing: Making the Coolest Gadget Ever Even More Fashionable

Without doubt, the gadget that has set the benchmark for style, technology and popularity is the Apple iPod. It wasn’t going to be long then before new gadgetry was designed around the deity of the techy world, to make the already usable iPod even easier to live with. Introducing the iRing, a Bluetooth ring concept that you wear on your finger to control the playback functionality of your iPod… and to show everyone around you just how tech-savvy you are!

Its wireless connectivity means that skipping that one song that you hate on your favourite CD no longer warrants you rummaging through your handbag, or risking cracking a vertebrae as you twist around for your iPod in your back pocket. You no longer even need to jostle the people around you on the ever-crowded bus, just subtly press on your ring and be in total control of what you listen to.

The iRing’s functionality is every bit as cool as the iPod’s. To adjust the volume, you simply need to slide your finger across the touch sensitive surface of the ring. To play or pause songs, just tap the apple icon on the ring and to skip tracks you need only touch on either side of the icon depending on which direction you want to go. The iRing is USB powered and comes with an equally stylish cradle for you to keep the ring safe or (as I would!) display it proudly on your coffee table. The cradle is also used to recharge the iRing through a USB connection.

GadgetFreak

They call it a "Headphone"

Since everything is going wireless these days, we are clearly looking at a future where all headphones will be wireless. There are many models of wireless headphones on the market today, and one that I have recently encountered is the Sennheiser MX W1 Totally Wireless Headphones.
The Sennheiser MX W1 is able to wirelessly connect to an MP3 Player, but it does not use any Bluetooth at all. Instead, it relies on Kleer corporation’s digital transmission technology, which uses the same 2.4 GHz range, but has better streaming of CD-quality sound for your ears.
The user needs to attach a transmitter to his or her MP3 Player via headphone jack. In fact, I believe these wireless headphones will work for any device that has a headphone jack.
It doesn’t look like the transmitter is powered by the MP3 Player or other electronic device, as you will also have to charge the transmitter and earbuds. The transmitter will last for about 10 hours, while the earbuds can last 3 to 5 hours. The headphones come with a special carrying case with a built-in battery that allows a full recharge of the earbuds three times.
Unfortunately, this wireless technology does not come cheap. In this case, this Sennheiser MX W1 will cost about $499.99.

GadgetFreak

New Folder.exe Virus Removal Tool

Virus also known as- IT University Sohanad W32.HLLW.Ssdx newfolder.exe
If this virus infected in you computer, It will Disable the following …
Task Manager, Registry Editor, Folder Options, Run in start menu
And it will create exes like the icon of folders. Sony and Apple are developing the next generation personal viewer, the navigation/video sunglasses. These products will offer navigation features in full see-through mode as well as video viewing with a clip-on to block the background,” the report explains.
Apparently, there’s a big market in both high street stores and the military for video goggles. Disable Indexing Services
Indexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of RAM and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. It does this so that when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you don’t search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. To disable do the following:
Go to Start
Click Settings
Click Control Panel
Double-click Add/Remove Programs
Click the Add/Remove Window Components
Uncheck the Indexing services
Click Next

2. Optimise Display Settings
Windows XP can look sexy but displaying all the visual items can waste system resources. To optimise:
Go to Start
Click Settings
Click Control Panel
Click System
Click Advanced tab
In the Performance tab click Settings
Leave only the following ticked:
Show shadows under menus
Show shadows under mouse pointer
Show translucent selection rectangle
Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop
Use visual styles on windows and buttons

3. Speedup Folder Browsing
You may have noticed that everytime you open my computer to browse folders that there is a slight delay. This is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers everytime you open Windows Explorer. To fix this and to increase browsing significantly:
Open My Computer
Click on Tools menu
Click on Folder Options
Click on the View tab.
Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box
Click Apply
Click Ok
Reboot your computer

4. Disable Performance Counters
Windows XP has a performance monitor utility which monitors several areas of your PC’s performance. These utilities take up system resources so disabling is a good idea.
To disable:
download and install the Extensible Performance Counter List
Then select each counter in turn in the ‘Extensible performance counters’ window and clear the ‘performance counters enabled’ checkbox at the bottom.button below

5. Improve Memory Usage
Cacheman Improves the performance of your computer by optimizing the disk cache, memory and a number of other settings.
Once Installed:
Go to Show Wizard and select All
Run all the wizards by selecting Next or Finished until you are back to the main menu. Use the defaults unless you know exactly what you are doing
Exit and Save Cacheman
Restart Windows

6. Optimise your internet connection
There are lots of ways to do this but by far the easiest is to run TCP/IP Optimizer.
Download and install
Click the General Settings tab and select your Connection Speed (Kbps)
Click Network Adapter and choose the interface you use to connect to the Internet
Check Optimal Settings then Apply
Reboot

7. Optimise Your Pagefile
If you give your pagefile a fixed size it saves the operating system from needing to resize the page file.
Right click on My Computer and select Properties
Select the Advanced tab
Under Performance choose the Settings button
Select the Advanced tab again and under Virtual Memory select Change
Highlight the drive containing your page file and make the initial Size of the file the same as the Maximum Size of the file.
Windows XP sizes the page file to about 1.5X the amount of actual physical memory by default. While this is good for systems with smaller amounts of memory (under 512MB) it is unlikely that a typical XP desktop system will ever need 1.5 X 512MB or more of virtual memory. If you have less than 512MB of memory, leave the page file at its default size. If you have 512MB or more, change the ratio to 1:1 page file size to physical memory size.

8. Run BootVis - Improve Boot Times
BootVis will significantly improve boot times
Download and Run
Select Trace
Select Next Boot and Driver Trace
A Trace Repetitions screen will appear, select Ok and Reboot
Upon reboot, BootVis will automatically start, analyze and log your system’s boot process. When it’s done, in the menu go to Trace and select Optimize System
Reboot.
When your machine has rebooted wait until you see the Optimizing System box appear. Be patient and wait for the process to complete

9. Remove the Desktop Picture
Your desktop background consumes a fair amount of memory and can slow the loading time of your system. Removing it will improve performance.
Right click on Desktop and select Properties
Select the Desktop tab
In the Background window select None
Click Ok

10. Remove Fonts for Speed
Fonts, especially TrueType fonts, use quite a bit of system resources. For optimal performance, trim your fonts down to just those that you need to use on a daily basis and fonts that applications may require.
Open Control Panel
Open Fonts folder
Move fonts you don’t need to a temporary directory (e.g. C:\FONTBKUP?) just in case you need or want to bring a few of them back. The more fonts you uninstall, the more system resources you will gain.
Hope you find these 10 tips useful please leave a comment below and please share any other tips you may have with other readers.

GadgetFreak

How to access MS office files online?

Using MS Office, users can now be more productive by viewing, sharing, and editing their Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents over the Internet using a web browser
A workspace that can be shared with others and is accessible from anywhere is fast becoming a necessity for individuals that are always on the move. Office Live Workspace is an online space provided by Microsoft for saving, accessing, and sharing documents and files. Using it one can access his/her documents from anywhere over an Internet connection via Web browser.
This tool can be used for grouping information for work, school, and personal projects. Consider an example where a team is working on different modules of the same project and all are on the move. Now to update each other about the status and to actually show the amount of work done this workspace can be of great help. To use this workspace there is no download required.
One just needs to sign up and and get a Windows live ID to start using it. The web interface of Live Workspace is very well designed, making it very easy to use. One can create office documents on their machines and directly save them in the provided Web space (using .NET passport).
Another great feature of this workspace is proper management of different versions of the same document. This helps in better understanding of content and even enables one to rollback to a previous version if required. You can also add comments to the documents for better communication. Sharing documents with other users for viewing or editing is another useful feature of this Workspace.
Other users will also need to have MS Office installed on their machines if they want to edit the documents. Viewing documents however, doesn't require this. People with MS Office installed will also need to install a Live update on their systems. This is pretty easy to do and takes just a few minutes. Once done, you can start sharing and working on Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.

Bill Gates & Jerry Seinfeld to Sell PCs?

Microsoft has signed the veteran comedian for $10,000 to endorse the brand with ex-Microsoft CEO, Bill Gates by his side. Microsoft's latest move to get Jerry Seinfeld on board for its $300 million advertising campaign has brought in a plethora of reactions from industry observers - mostly negative, if early reports are any indication.
The Jerry Seinfeld-Bill Gates campaign is a brand-revamp programme for Microsoft aiming to mend its reputation and tackle the Apple syndrome. Reactions have included comments such as Jerry Seinfeld not being in-sync with the current generation's tempo, even though he's had his moment as comedian, and is still much sought-after. Other comments suggest that Seinfeld needs to be really funny in order to make an impact on consumers in order to get their attention. Whatever the industry experts say, Microsoft and Seinfeld are sure to come out with an impossible-to-ignore campaign, if not exactly creative. So let's hold on and wait for the ads to come out.

Gadgetfreak

India among top 10 spam sending countries!

Secure Computing, a public company that provides enterprise security solution, recently published the Internet Threats Report for the second quarter of 2008. Among other findings, the report shows that while spam volume and new zombies have decreased in the past quarter, enterprises and home users are increasingly being attacked through malicious Web content and blended security attacks.According to the report India figures among the top 10 spam sending countries, accounting for nearly 3 per cent of spam sent globally in the second quarter of 2008, says The Economic Times, quoting the report. The report further notes that spam or unsolicited e-mails sent from emerging markets is expected to grow as the Internet infrastructure improves. According to Secure Computing, the top 10 countries account for 55 per cent of the world's spam volume. While US topped the spammers' list with a 16.56 per cent contribution, Russia comes second with nearly half of that. The other countries in the list are Turkey, Brazil, Italy and China. India is ranked ninth in the list. The report states that even though the overall spam volume is up 280 per cent from Q2 2007 to Q2 2008, spam volumes have decreased by 40 per cent this quarter. Even though both spam and new zombies are down this year, Secure Computing researchers point to other areas that are increasingly problematic.

LG Announces 8 Megapixel Mobile Handset

LG has announced yet another touch screen handset that could be their next iKiller. The Secure Computing TrustedSource Research Team detected a spam-based email attack that links to new Web-based malware and features news on Angelina Jolie as bait. Both the Web and email campaigns were detected jointly by Secure Computing's Secure Web (Webwasher) and Secure Mail (IronMail) products, and successfully correlated by the company's global reputation system, TrustedSource. On average, about 2.28 percent of the total global daily email volume contains subjects like "Angelina Jolie naked," "Angelina Jolie nude movie," and "Angelina Jolie naked video." Approximately 100,000 unique IP addresses were identified as responsible for this spam on the first day of its outbreak. The "Angelina Jolie" spam campaign contains a URL linked to an executable binary, mostly seen as msvideoc.exe hosted at multiple domains. Secure Web's proactive scanning engine identified it as "Trojan.Crypt.XPACK.GEN," and both Secure Web and Secure Web Protection Service users were protected from the beginning.Another trend, the company has noticed is has been steady waves of mass-mailings hitting users' inboxes with fake invoices. For example, fake UPS messages claimed that a package couldn't be delivered and was returned, and instructed the user to print an attached invoice-which contained malware.

International telephone calls as cheaper as a local call

In a breakthrough that can make international telephone calls as cheaper as a local call tariff and eliminate roaming charges, an Israeli company has developed a unique solution, which integrates GSM technology with the Internet!
The technology allows a GSM SIM card to be integrated with a USB port or a phone. Once the device is connected to a PC, the system converts to a telephone and allows users to make VoIP calls to any mobile or handset anywhere in the world!
Skuku, coming to India!
This unique solution has been developed by Skuku, an international communications company specializing in network based telephony solutions. After two years of development work in Latvia and Israel, Skuku devices will hit the market worldwide in a big way, including India.
Skuku is a USB handset or a USB stick which, once a SIM card has been inserted, allows the user to pay only their local airtime charges when making and receiving calls from their home country. The Skuku phone transforms the user's PC into his or her personal mobile phone, retaining all of the phone's features, and allowing low-cost VoIP and text messaging.
The user keeps his/her personal phone number and enjoys all of the other features of the mobile phone, including contact lists and text messaging.
Free calls!
The Skuku phone also enables receiving and making of international calls from anywhere in the world at low IP tariffs, while inter-network calls are free between Skuku users.
The Skuku phone now allows users to enjoy the added convenience of using an actual phone-like handset to make and receive calls from their PC. Besides sending and receiving SMS messages is also possible using a Skuku device.
"We wanted to make people as comfortable as possible when making calls from their personal computers," said Lior Tzabari, vice president of marketing for Skuku. "The Skuku phone and stick, allows users to totally eradicate roaming costs while at the same time maximizing user comfort."
The Skuku handset device follows the launch of the Skuku stick, Skuku's original solution to eliminating roaming charges. The Skuku stick is a USB device, which, once a SIM-card is inserted into it and is placed in the user's PC, offers the same benefits as Skuku phone.

Nokia came with E series.....

Nokia announced the launch of its E62 smartphone in the country, making India the second nation in the world after US to sell the Nokia E62 Smartphone. You don't want to take your eyes off the presentation, but want to silence the mobile with ease, such as flipping it over or tapping on it. Many of us have gone through this experience and have wondered why handset manufacturers are not coming up with an easy way to disconnect such calls. Finland-based mobile handset maker Nokia is set to launch such a device, which will help you silence the phone by just flipping it over or by tapping on it. This is just one among many other applications that have been developed on the S60 open mobile platform. The mobile phone giant will introduce enhancements to the S60 user experience in its models that will hit the markets worldwide in 2008.The new models will have intuitive touch user interface with tactile feedback, advanced sensor technologies and user interface accelerator toolkit and desktop-like video experience with FlashLite3.

Here comes the real iPOD

iRiver’s new Spinn PMP is a touch screen enabled player that also provides users with haptic feedback. In the US, the new iPhone 3G is priced at a stunning $199 for the 8GB model, and just $299 for the 16GB model. The iPhone 3G will be available in more than 70 countries later this year, beginning with customer availability in 22 countries -- Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the US -- on July 11."Just one year after launching the iPhone, we're launching the new iPhone 3G that is twice as fast at half the price," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "iPhone 3G supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync right out of the box, runs the incredible third party apps created with the iPhone SDK, and will be available in more than 70 countries around the world this year."iPhone 3G gives users ever faster access to the Internet and email over their cellular network with quad-band GSM and tri-band HSDPA for voice and data connectivity around the world. iPhone 3G supports Wi-Fi, 3G and EDGE networks and automatically switches between them to ensure the fastest possible download speeds. The new iPhone 3G also makes it easier to multi-task with simultaneous voice and data communications, so with iPhone 3G you can browse the web, get map directions, or check your email while you are on a call.iPhone 3G includes the new iPhone 2.0 software with both the iPhone SDK and key enterprise features such as support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync to provide over-the-air push email, contact and calendar syncing as well as remote wipe and Cisco IPsec VPN for encrypted access to corporate networks. The iPhone SDK allows developers to create amazing applications that leverage the iPhone's groundbreaking Multi-Touch user interface, animation technology, accelerometer and GPS technology on the world's most advanced mobile platform. iPhone 3G includes the new App Store, providing iPhone users with native applications in a variety of categories including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel. The App Store on iPhone works over cellular networks and Wi-Fi, which means it is accessible from just about anywhere, so you can purchase and download applications wirelessly and start using them instantly. Some applications are even free and the App Store notifies you when application updates are available. The App Store will be available in 62 countries at launch.Additional features available with the iPhone 2.0 software include the ability to do real-time mapping and track your progress with GPS technology, mass move and delete multiple email messages, search for contacts, access a new scientific calculator, turn on parental control restrictions for specified content, save images directly from a web page or email them to your iPhone and easily transfer them back to your photo library on your Mac or PC. iPhone 3G delivers an amazing 10 hours of talk time on 2G networks and five hours using 3G, with up to five-six hours of web browsing, up to seven hours for video playback and up to 24 hours for audio playback. The iPhone 3G takes advantage of MobileMe, a new Internet service that pushes email, contacts, and calendars from an online "cloud" to native applications on iPhone, iPod touch, Macs and PCs. With MobileMe email, messages are pushed instantly to iPhone, removing the need to manually check email and wait for downloads, and push keeps contacts and calendars continuously up-to-date so changes made on one device are automatically updated on other devices. With iPhone, you can even snap a photo and post it directly to a MobileMe Gallery to share with friends and family. The iPhone 3G will be available in the US on July 11 for a suggested retail price of $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model in both Apple and AT&T's retail stores, and requires a new two-year contract with AT&T for qualifying customers. iPhone 2.0 software will be available on July 11 as a free software update via iTunes 7.7 or later for all iPhone customers.Who's launching iPhone 3G, and where!AT&T and Apple to Launch iPhone 3G in the US on July 11America Movil and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Mexico on July 11Rogers and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Canada on July 11Vodafone and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Australia, Italy, New Zealand & Portugal on July 11Orange and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Austria, France, Portugal & Switzerland on July 11T-Mobile and Apple to Launch iPhone 3G in Austria, Germany & the Netherlands on July 11TeliaSonera and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Denmark, Finland, Norway & Sweden on July 11Telefonica and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Spain on July 11Telecom Italia Mobile and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Italy on July 11Swisscom and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Switzerland on July 11Softbank and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Japan on July 11SingTel and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to SingaporeOptus and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to Australia on July 11O2 and Apple to Launch iPhone 3G in the UK & Ireland on July 11Hutchison Telecom and Apple to Bring iPhone to Hong Kong on July 11.

iPhone comes in India - but is it cool enough for Indian's

Gigesh: I got some comments of people on iPhone launch in India. The decision by Vodafone to price the Apple iPhone 3G at Rs 31,000 and Rs 36,100, for 8GB and 16GB respectively has disappointed thousands of eagerly awaiting mobile users in the country.Expected to be priced in the range of Rs.16,000 to Rs 20,000, which is Rs 10,000 more than price iPhone is selling in US, users feel let down by exorbitant pricing of the much hyped handset in India.Says Mehak Chawla, "I expected it to be priced at around Rs. 16000 much less than the current exorbitant price." "If it's available for only 12000 in US, why is it so crazily being priced here," adds Mehak, an iPhone fan who has now shelved the idea of buying the phone. Apple iPhone 3G is available for $199 (Rs 8,358) in the US, plus $99 (Rs 4,158) as an annual contract with the single mobile operator AT&T, unlike India where the handset is linked to both Vodafone and Airtel. The handset will be launched on August 22 across India. Unconfirmed reports have suggested that Airtel is also mulling the same pricing plan for Apple iPhone in India.Mehak's disappointment is shared by Aamir Khan, IT specialist at IT services company. "This is pretty discouraging. For me, 3G excitement has been punctured even before it could take off. If the best 3G phone is so costly, how do users get to know what high-speed mobile internet means", says Khan."When the access device itself is costly, how can we go for 3G services", adds Khan. The pricing has also surprised market analysts, who expected the pricing to be more reasonable considering the dynamics of Indian market. "iPhone is clearly over priced in India. Operators are looking at skimming the high end market in the country" says, Prasanto K Roy, Chief Editor at CyberMedia."The operators are basically following US model, pricing the handset at a very high price in the first year and then lowering the prices," adds Roy.However, Roy questions the judgment of using the same model India also, "Indian mobile users have been exposed to iPhone and are quite aware of the pricing world wide" adds Roy."They will feel let down", contends Roy.Roy also adds this pricing would only encourage grey market for these handsets in India."iPhone is available in Indian grey market at around Rs 20,000 much less than the price it will be sold here," adds RoyBut will the pricing impact sales of iPhone in India?. Roy feels the initial excitement and hype around iPhone will see the operators through the initial six months."Initially operators won't face any problems selling the iPhone in India and once the hype is over in another six months, I expect operators to revise the rates." adds Roy.Hitesh Raj Bhagat, editor of Living Digital, a consumer electronics magazine, though doesn't fully agree that iPhone is exorbitantly priced in India as compared to US. However, he contends the terms of pricing for the handset are not justified in India."See in US, they pay $199 upfront and another $99 as annual contract which roughly comes to $450 which is also reasonably costly", says Hitesh."Why they didn't follow the contract model here in India was operators were afraid that users will buy iPhone for subsidised cost and get them unlocked in grey markets to use any other network provider", adds Hitesh. This, Hitesh argues would have seriously dented operators revenues. However, Hitesh feels Vodafone, is completely unjustified when it comes to modalities charted out by company to sell handsets in India "In US you pay the money in installments and not upfront as it is the case here. And your iPhone is being locked with the operator and he decides which talk plan to choose", Hitesh. "This is totally unfair. You can't have cake and eat it too", adds Hitesh.

Post your comments on iPhone, and try to come up with some nice advices which i can send to Apple.

Gadgetfreak
